Faculty Senate votes unanimously against proposed dress code

Staff report

Tejano Tribune Staff Report

Faculty Senate representatives voted on Monday their opposition to a proposed dress code that was distributed for a required 21-day review on Feb. 27 from EPCC Administration.

Details of the vote were contained in an email sent Tuesday from Albert Burnham, EPCC Faculty Association president. Burnham's email urged college faculty to send comments about the proposed dress code.

Content of Burnham's email follows:

"Greetings EPCC Faculty.
At yesterday’s (March 3) meeting of the EPCC Faculty Senate, a representative from Human Resources explained administration’s rationale for proposing a so-called “dress code.”  The representative also answered many questions and responded to a variety of comments.
At the end of the meeting, I offered a resolution which, your representatives on the Faculty Senate, unanimously passed.  Here is the resolution:“The duly elected representatives of the El Paso Community College Faculty Association in Faculty Senate assembled, do hereby voice their opposition to the proposed ‘DH-2 Dress Code Guidelines’ as sent out for twenty-one day review on February 27, 2025.”
I urge you to continue sending in your comments regarding this proposed dress code to Institutional Effectiveness.  Continue making your voice heard.  As I stated in an earlier email on this subject, our attire is in your hands.
Thank you very much. Albert BurnhamPresident – EPCC Faculty Association"

The notice from Human Resources reads as follows:

"At the request of Dr. Serrata, please review the attached, new College procedure and send any comments to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness by Wednesday, March 19, 2025.  Shading denotes material to be added; strike-outs denote material to be deleted.
