Tejano Tribune Staff Report

In an email sent Friday, May 23, by Steven Smith, vice president of Instruction and Workforce Education, faculty and staff were informed that offices would be inspected to check for mold. This follows the relocation of graphic arts classes from classrooms in the VV A Building last month.

According to Smith's email, ongoing inspections in the A Building at the VV Campus would begin Thursday, May 29, and continue through Friday, May 30. "Construction and Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CECI) will be testing offices to check for possible mold as a precautionary measure," according to the email.

Smith's email indicated an uncertain timeline for inspections. "While we do not know what time they will be at each office, workers from CECI will be entering your offices for approximately an hour, so be prepared to step out of your office for a short time," the email reported.

"You do not need to be present, as members of the Physical Plant team will be able to let themselves in," the email continued. "They will be measuring moisture in the space and possibly cutting out a small portion of the wall for sampling."

"After the initial inspection, we will find out which, if any, offices need further testing. If your office is required to be part of an expanded testing process, you will be notified of the next steps," the email concluded.

Smith's email included his thanks and noted more information would be shared as it became available.
