Theater Ensemble presents "Laundry & Bourbon” and “Lone Star”

The El Paso Community College (EPCC) Forum Theatre proudly presents two Texas-sized comedy one-act plays “Laundry & Bourbon” and “Lone Star” by James McClure. Presentations will take place on March 3-12 Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.

The EPCC Theater Ensemble performs at the Forum Theater on the EPCC Transmountain campus, 9570 Gateway North.

“Laundry and Bourbon” centers on the discontent and very funny gossip of three small town wives whose marriages have turned out to be less than what was hoped for.

On a hot summer afternoon, Elizabeth and her friend Hattie sit out on the porch folding laundry, sipping bourbon and coke and gossiping. They are joined by the self-righteous Amy Lee who cannot resist blurting out that Elizabeth’s husband Roy has been seen around town with another woman.

Whilst the ensuing conversation is increasingly edged with bitter humor, there emerges nevertheless a sense of Elizabeth’s inner strength and her quiet understanding of the turmoil which has beset her husband since his return from Vietnam.

“Lonestar” takes place in the cluttered backyard of a small-town Texas bar. Roy, a macho type who had once been a local high-school hero, is back in town after a hitch in Vietnam and trying to reestablish his position in the community.

Joined by his younger brother, Ray (who worships him), Roy sets about consuming a case of beer while regaling Ray with tales of his military and amorous exploits. Apparently, Roy cherishes three things above all: his country, his sexy young wife, and his 1959 pink Thunderbird.

With the arrival of Cletis, the fatuous, newlywed son of the local hardware store owner, the underpinnings of Roy’s world begin to collapse. But, despite all, the high good humor of the play never lapses, and all ends as breezily and happily as it began. EPCC Theater partners with the Art Department to present this production. EPCC Art students, Adrian Aguilar and James Cataldi, designed the posters for the event.
