“The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”: A Stunning Continuation of a Loved Series

BY IVANA ORTEGA

(L) Tom Blyth as President Snow and Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird, star in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

The Hunger Games continues its trilogy years after eight years since the last movie was

released. “The Hunger Games: The Ballard of Songbirds and Snakes” is a prequel, making it five movies in the series. If you’d want to watch the movies in order, you’d have to watch this one first. Released on November 17, 2023 and with a budget of $100 million, the movie scored a 65% Rotten Tomatoes score along with earning a whopping $199,403,697 at the global box office, which is increasing as the days pass.

When I went to go see it with my friends on Saturday, we loved it. We all gave it a 10 out of 10. From the soundtrack to the cinematography, it was a fantastic film.

I’d have to say the music that this film has is some of the best I’ve heard in a while. It really moves you and makes you want to look up and play the songs on a loop. I learned that “You Can’t Catch Me Now” was by Olivia Rodrigo and have had it on repeat since Saturday.

Overall, this movie focuses on the early life of President Coriolanus Snow and explores the

events leading up to the establishment of the hunger games as a televised event. We got to

really understand why and how President Snow is the way he is now and the purpose behind

why he still continues these games that literally is killing people to survive.

It’s interesting how someone can make a huge impact in your life either for good or bad; in this case it was bad. Because everywhere Snow went or the people he met along the way, it

reminded him of a specific person decades later.

I recommend watching this movie if you like catchy soundtracks, want to understand the backstory on President Snow, if you want to know the reason why he continues the games

years later and if you like survival and action films. However, if you don’t like killings, blood and the lynching of innocent people, I don’t think this movie is for you.
