New Snyder's cut Justice League now worth watching

By ALEXUS CHARAY - There are some films that you never watch again. For me, one of these films is the 2017 Justice League since it had left a sour taste in my mouth, and it felt like something was missing.

That said, I was intrigued as to what the "Snyder cut" had to offer, especially considering the four-hour run time. I wasn't expecting much, but this film puts the 2017 version to shame. After watching The Zack Snyder cut of Justice League, I understood why the film's first release felt incomplete: because it simply was.

As people have been calling it, the Snyder cut is a different movie than the aforementioned Justice League released in 2017. Although both movies center around DC Heroes, such as Wonder Woman, Batman, Aquaman,

The Flash, and Cyborg, fighting off an evil entity known as Steppenwolf, the 2017 Justice League feels like a rushed, incoherent movie compared to Snyder’s take. With better characterization, more slow-motion, and overall better storytelling, this version of the Justice League is guaranteed to give fans the story they want to see. In this movie, each hero felt necessary in the plot, playing a vital role in the climax instead of being sidelined. The fight scenes were heavily improved upon, and audiences can watch a team in action rather than individuals, each having separate turns at the bad guy.

Not only does this movie give fans a true Justice League, but I believe it will mark the start of a new approach in film. This movie is four hours long (whether it needed to have a long run time is debatable, but it is what it is) and is one of the main things people discussed during its release. Typically, movies tend to average from 1 to 2 hours.

Doubling the time was a risk, but considering how many people watched the new release, making a four-hour movie can work. This is due to HBO Max or, simply put, streaming services. Audiences have the opportunity to pause the movie and take breaks from watching the film. Instead of being limited to a 2-hour movie time, more options may arise for moviemakers to make longer films who partner with streaming services, going into different and important elements that may have been scrapped due to time.

Whether Justice League is the start of an age of longer movies is unknown. What is known, though, is that the film delivers a strong entry into the DC universe.

Not everyone will have the luxury or sheer human capacity of watching this movie in one sitting, but it is worth viewing for an entertaining experience.
