EPCC Receives Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting

The Government Finance Officers Association (GOFA) of the United States and Canada recently awarded El Paso Community College (EPCC) with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR) for the 2019 fiscal year.

This is the 24th year that EPCC receives this award, which is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

Ms. Josette Shaughnessy, Vice president, Financial and Administrative Operations, Mr. Fernando Flores, Associate Vice President, Budget and Financial Services and Ms. Ana Zúñiga, Comptroller and other members of the Budget and Financial Services team were recognized during the January 2021 Board of Trustees meeting.

This certificate recognizes EPCC's efforts to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure.

Not only does this recognition demonstrate the financial health of EPCC, but also ensures that the public and users of their financial statements have the information they need to clearly understand them.

EPCC's CAFR highlights not only the College's financial results but also its achievements in every area of the district such as initiatives related to student success, technology, grant management and the various services provided to the El Paso community.

“It is always with great pride that we accept this award on behalf of El Paso Community College," Shaughnessy said.

“The CAFR also provides a wealth of information to the Federal, State and local agencies, the bond rating agencies, and the college's accreditation bodies about the EPCC's vital role in the local, state and national economy."
