An exciting week for EPCC baseball after sweeping a four-game series against Otero Junior College was capped with several signings on National Signing Day.
Sophomore infielder Carlos Mauldin signed to play at the University of Oregon, while fellow sophomore outfielders Yahir Acevedo signed to play at Cal State Bakersfield and Joshua Prado signed to play at Texas A&M Kingsville. Freshman lefthand pitcher Barry Miller signed to play at New Mexico Highlands.

Mauldin received a text message last week from Oregon assistant coach Jack Marder telling Carlos that he was receiving an offer to play at the next level.
“I was at Tropical Smoothie, got a text message and ran outside and started screaming," Carlos Mauldin said. “I called our EPCC assistant coach Manny Sierra and he was just as excited. He has helped me mentally so it's really exciting."
Oregon has been a dream school for Carlos since he was a young child, but surprisingly, the Radford high school graduate in El Paso did not play high school baseball.
“Funny thing about Carlos is that he didn't play high school baseball, he went to a small private school in El Paso, so a lot of people didn't know about him," EPCC head coach Julien Soucy said. “He never went through the recruiting process at all. He had a hot start to the season and Oregon liked what they saw, so it really worked out for him. He has worked really hard to get to that point."
Oregon has always been on Carlos' radar, and the Ducks program liked what they saw in his videos.
“I really think it is my physique, they really liked my physical play, my power, they told me they liked that I am a great defender, so to find a player that can defend and hit at the same time is unique," Carlos added. “My father is proud and my mom cried when I told her, since it's my dream school, so they are both really happy because I am achieving one of my dreams."
EPCC is 12-1 on the season, their best start in program history after an 11-0 start in 2007. This is part of a 20-game homestand until March 15. EPCC will host the WOSC Western Pioneers (7-2) one game on Friday, then host a doubleheader Saturday, February 22 starting at 11:00 a.m., followed by the series finale on Sunday, February 23 at 11:00 a.m.
