6th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Scholarship to be awarded in October


The Hispanic Heritage Month Committee is proud to announce the Hispanic Heritage Month Scholarship in celebration of the “Spirit of Diversity” at El Paso Community College (EPCC).

The theme of this year’s event is “Hispanics: Be Proud of Your Past, Embrace the Future”.

The $1000 scholarship will be awarded Thursday, October 15, 2020 at a special event (attendance required for award recipients). Submissions must be emailed to Lydia Vázquez at lvazque3@epcc.edu by Thursday, September 24, 2020. Awardees will be notified by email no later than Thursday, October 8, 2020. If you are selected as a finalist, be advised that you may be required to submit additional materials in a limited amount of time.

The Committee will award scholarships to the applicants whose submissions best exemplify the 2020 theme. To access the full application, please visit: ww.epcc.edu/financialaid/scholarships Scholarship Eligibility:

 Currently enrolled EPCC students planning on attending full-time at EPCC in Spring 2021 (current Dual

Credit, Continuing Education, and Early College High School excluded)

 12 completed credit hours at EPCC

 In-state student with a 3.0 GPA or higher

Scholarship Submission Requirements:

 Unofficial EPCC transcripts (demonstrating academic accomplishments)

 Current resume (focus of resume should be upon community involvement)

 A short, 100-word autobiography

 1-2 page, double-spaced essay addressing the following prompt:

“How does your heritage and the values you draw from it prepare you for the modern world? How can this experience contribute to your future success?”

Submission Guidelines:

 Email transcripts, resume, bio, and essay to lvazque3@epcc.edu. In subject line write “HHM

SCHOLARSHIP SUBMISSION.” Incomplete submissions will be rejected from consideration. Please ensure that your name is on all documents.
