The El Paso Community College men’s and women’s cross-country teams finished second and third respectively at the 2019 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 Cross Country National Championships, in Albuquerque on Nov. 9.

EPCC's Dennis Kiptoo (R) led the cross-country team to a second-place finish at the NJCAA national championship.
Cloud County (Kansas) won the men’s 8K championship with 89 points. The EPCC Tejanos finished with 110 points while Iowa Central came in third with 140.
The Tejanos were led by sophomore Dennis Kiptoo (5th place, 24:18), who earned First Team All-American honors, and freshman Bradley Makuvire (8th, 24:31), who was named Second-Team All-American.
EPCC’s Everlyn Kemboi, the 2018 National Champion, finished 2nd in this year’s 5K race with a time of 17:02, earning her First Team All-American honors.
Francisca Jebor (18:17), who finished ninth, earned Second Team All-America status.
Iowa Central (60 points) took the team title, the third straight for the program. New Mexico finished second with 107 points, while EPCC followed with 125.
Still on tap for the EPCC cross-country teams is the NJCAA National Half Marathon Championships on Nov. 23.
The race will be hosted by EPCC, and held at Ascarate Park.
Both the EPCC men’s and women’s are defending national champions.
