The EPCC men’s cross-country team took first place at the Western Junior College Athletic Conference/National Junior College Athletic Association Region 5 Championship last Saturday at Snyder, Texas.
The title was the second straight by the men, who easily outdistanced their nearest competitor, Ranger Junior College, by a score of 20-58. New Mexico JC finished third with 67 points.

The Tejanos, led by Gideon Cheplak who won the 8K race in a time of 25:29.90, claimed the top four spots in the meet.
Finishing behind Cheplak were Tejanos’ Bradley Makuvire (placed 2nd, with a time of 25:57.00); Dennis Kiptoo (3rd, 26:17.20) and Elias Loriposia (4th, 26:19,70).
Finishing 10th and 11th respectively were EPCC’s Eduardo Gallegos (28:10.00) and David Ceballos (28:17.20).
With the top 10 finishers receiving All-Conference honors, EPCC’s Cheplak, Makuvire, Kiptoo, Loriposia and Gallegos were so honored.
The EPCC women’s team (51 points) finished third in the same race, behind champion South Plaines (35) and New Mexico Junior College (41).
Leading the Tejanas was Everlyn Kemnoi, who finished the 5K race in third place with a time of 6:04.1.
The other EPCC runners in the top =10 were Francisca Jebor (6th, 19:22.99), Faith Jemutai (7th, 6:15.25).
By finishing in the top 10, the three were also named to the All-Conference team. Up next for the EPCC cross-country teams is the NJCAA National Championship on Nov. 9 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The season culminates with the Half Marathon Championships on Nov. 23 at Ascarate Park in El Paso.
