The California sun shined brightly on the EPCC men’s cross-country team as they added yet another victory to their 2019 ledger.

Gideon Cheplak (601), pictured here at an earlier race this season, won the Vanguard Invitational Meet in Orange, California the past weekend.
The Tejanos dominated the field of 17 other schools on their way to capturing the 29th annual Vanguard Invitational Meet in the city of Orange, over the weekend.
The EPCC women also had a strong meet, taking second place at the southern California competition.
The Tejanos were led by Gideon Cheplak, who finished first in the 8K race with a time of 23.55.5.
In fact, the EPCC men took the first four individual positions on their way to the easy win.
The Tejanos finished with 35 points, well ahead of The Master’s University, which tallied 55 points.
Menlo College and Concordia (Cal.) were way back in third and fourth place with 125 and 135 points respectively.
Taking places 2-thru-4 for the Tejanos were Bradley Makuvire (24:09.9), Elias Loriposia (24:21.2) and Dennis Kiptoo (24:26.4).
Eduardo Gallegos (26:17.4) finished 25th and Davis Ceballos (26:23.7) was 30th for the Tejanos.
The EPCC women found themselves in a close three-team race for the title, losing to Vanguard University 52 points to 58.

at the Vanguard Invitational Meet in Orange, Cal.
Concordia (Cal.) finished third with 64. The nearest school to those three was Westmont, which finished with a distant 120 points.
The Tejanas were led by Everlyn Kemboi, who won the 5K race with a time of 17:09.9.
Teammates Francisca Jebor (17:22.1) and Faith Jemutai (17:48.2), finished in 2nd and 5th place respectively.
The women are currently ranked second in the nation and the men are ranked fourth in the most recent US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Poll.
The new polls should be coming out this week.
Next up for the cross-country teams is the University of the Southwest Invite in Hobbs, New Mexico on October 18.
This season will lead up to EPCC hosting the 2019 NJCAA Half Marathon Championship on Nov. 23 as the finale of its year-long 50th anniversary celebration.
