EPCC’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage month will end with a grand finale at the annual Mentor’s Dinner where the keynote speaker will be Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic woman to go up to space.

The mistress of ceremonies at the kick-off event was Karla Mariscal from Telemundo, she has been hosting this event for about the past 5 years.

This event provided entertainment such as singing, games inside and outside of the annex, and information provided about many of the clubs at the school that are there to help the students out.

“This year brings a more special meaning for me and I know for the whole Hispanic community because this year, at this moment, we more than ever need to be proud of who we are,” explained Mariscal.

“To stand for our beliefs, for our culture, for our colors, and for our traditions. What happened about 6 weeks ago in El Paso was very tragic, but we can’t live in the past, we need to say we are proud, we are here, and we’re going to stay.”This is the 18th annual Hispanic Heritage event held at EPCC and is organized by the

EPCC Hispanic Heritage Committee.

Hispanic Heritage month is celebrated as an appreciation towards the Hispanic and Latino communities.
Officially, Hispanic Heritage month begins on Sept. 15 and finishes Oct. 15.

The kickoff event provided students and faculty with food, entertainment, and activities. The Hispanic Heritage Committee will be hosting a free art exhibition at the ACS building starting on Sept. 28 until Oct. 15 and is open to the public.
