Donate to EPCC's annual Turkey Drive

November 6, 2018

The season of frights and tricks has passed and November means it is time to be grateful for the things we have and in turn, be willing to share them.

The Classified Staff Association of EPCC is sponsoring this year’s Turkey Drive that will help feed the less fortunate people in the El Paso community.

“The purpose of the CSA is to represent its constituents and when possible, sponsor activities to benefit the community at large,” said CSA public relations officer, Jessie Arellano.

The turkey drives gives the CSA the opportunity to do just that as they accept frozen turkeys or cash donations to purchase turkeys from now until Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. and all of EPCC’s campuses.

The CSA’s council members contact various local community organizations to determine who will be selected to accept the donations and are based off of need.

This year’s donations will directly benefit, the Winchester House which is a transitional living center for former foster youth and homeless males that focus on providing them with skills necessary for them to transition into a life of their own and become self-sufficient.

As well as the Catholic Diocese of El Paso, El Buen Pastor Mission based in Horizon City where more than 300 families attend and more than 200 children enroll in the religious education program and the Westside Community Church who aim to love and serve the entire community. “Donating a little will go a long way,” said Arellano.

“We will gladly accept a few dollars. In the end, it all adds up and we are able to purchase additional turkeys.”

People who are able to donate a turkey or even a few dollars have an opportunity to make an impact on the less fortunate and gift them something that those fortunate enough often take for granted.

It is the perfect opportunity to share what we are grateful enough to have.

“We chose to hold a turkey drive during this time because some of our donations result in the only Thanksgiving meal shared by local families in need,” said Arellano.

“Not only do they receive a meal, they are allowed an opportunity to sit as a family and enjoy the season without the worry of cost.”

Donations are being accepted at the following locations:

Administrative Services Center – Room A120 and A844

Northwest – Room M80

Valle Verde – Room C117

Rio Grande – Room D130 and A240

Mission Del Paso – Room D128

Transmountain – Room 1400
