On October 5th Venom, the newest member of the Marvel Universe, made his debut on the big screen.
The film was directed by Ruben Fleischer director of Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less. Unlike many people who saw the movie I actually liked it.
It was a good mix of action and comedy. Since Deadpool debuted in 2015 we’ve seen more action movies that try to add in some raunchy comedy to give the movie a little more character, and Venom did just that.
"Venom" has made $80 million since its premiere on Oct. 5. The film is the latest addition to the Marvel Universe.
He mixed in enough Ha-Ha moments that it didn’t deter from being a good action movie. The Reviews are in and they are pretty split. Some of the critics are raving about this movie and others are extremely disappointed.
With a mere 31% on Rotten Tomatoes we see there are many negative reviews on this movie.
“This is: a tone-deaf, uneven and maddeningly dumb clunker that never settles on an identity, all the way to the closing credits” says Richard Roeper from the Chicago Sun Times.
With much of the critics saying that Venom could have been thought out more and that the movie feels like it was rushed to production.
On the other hand there are people like Charles Pulliam-Moore that actually liked the movie “Venom strikes an imperfect balance between two extremes—sticking too close to, or straying too far from, Marvel’s source material.
And that’s a testament to Sony’s belief that audiences are going to want to watch a charmingly-disheveled Tom Hardy murder and eat people in the name of twisted justice in this movie and any potential sequels.”
Now you have to remember that this isn’t a MARVEL movie. It is based in the Marvel Universe and is made in association with Marvel but it is not an actual Marvel movie. With that being said it is still a good movie. As a big fan of all things Marvel I think it’s great to see him as an addition to the Marvel Universe.
I’ve always been a big fan of Tom Hardy I truly think that he does well in all the roles that he plays and I think that he played this role really well.
His ability to capture a characters essence and portray it well is amazing. Just like all other Marvel Universe movies you are left wanting more. Venom gets a 4 out of 5 stars from me. There will obviously be a sequel and it will be interesting to see how the directors include him in the Spider-Man universe.
