With the Spring semester coming to an end and summer approaching, EPCC is conducting programs and activities around campus to get students out of the house, including our own intramural sports activities.
These activities include bench pressing competitions, fitness contests, dodgeball, basketball and volleyball games.

EPCC students at the Valle Verde campus gather at the gymnasium for free intramural activities.
The program also includes outdoor nature activities such as kite flying, horseback riding, Carlsbad Caverns tours and going out in the wilderness to explore natural resources.
Intramural Sports Director, Louie Hernandez, said, “I would recommend anyone to participate in any of these activities and enjoy these experiences before we all start worrying about school.”
These programs will begin in June and take place in the Tejano Valle Verde Gymnasium.
Basketball activities are the main program listed as they include free throw shooting contests, 3 on 3 team games of basketball and hot shot shooting games.
The bench press competitions and fitness contests are meant to build personal strength and athleticism, “We do this program since students are always busy in school during the fall and spring semesters and we want those who are free with nothing to do in the summer to stay fit and be more active during the summer.
It would also be an activity to let stress out and takes your mind off specific things that get in the way,” Hernandez said.
In addition to the sports activities, students will have the opportunity to be outdoors experiencing nature.
These activities include wilderness walks, horseback ridings, kite flying, turkey runs, and tours around notable attractions such as Carlsbad Caverns, the Grand Canyon and White Sands.
These opportunities are being made available because, “Many students did not have a chance to explore the wilderness or even tour Carlsbad Caverns at an early age.
We want these students to learn from these experiences and have fun while it all lasts. This is a great opportunity to experience the taste of the outside world and we want to show them what it is like in nature,” Hernandez said.
The intramural sports activities are available to give students the opportunity to stay fit and healthy throughout the summer and to explore the great outdoors.
It is a way to relieve any stress or problems going on outside of school. It’s not too late to join and all you need is a valid EPCC ID.
For more information on the activities and how to join, Hernandez can be contacted by phone at (915) 831-2567.
