Everyone knows the harmonica intro. Everyone knows the contagious laugh that ends it. Now, we get to hear it again because Roseanne Conner and her dysfunctional yet humorous family are back on the air with new episodes of Roseanne on ABC.
The announcement of the show’s revival came out last year with numerous fans excited and ecstatic.
The show has the same cast from when it premiered in 1988 and ended in 1997 (Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, Laurie Metcalf, Michael Fishman, Sarah Chalke, etc.) They all live in the same house which is a nice sight to see.
New and original cast members join together for the newest
season of "Roseanne" since the show went off the air in 1997.
However, the family has expanded. D.J. (Michael Fishman) has an African-American daughter named Mary (Jayden Rey) who he had with wife Geena Williams. Darlene (Sara Gilbert) has two kids of her own, Mark (Ames McNamara) and Harris (Emma Kenney) that she had from husband David Healy (Johnny Galecki).
From the two episodes that have been aired so far, Roseanne and her sister Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) have serious friction. The reason for that is because both of them have extremely different political views. Roseanne drops hints that she is a Conservative (Republican) and Jackie is a Liberal (Democrat).
Now don’t let this discourage you from watching the show as the humor disguises any issues and only tries to send a positive message to viewers.
What makes the show’s revival great is how it touches on subjects that affects the United States today.
Aside from politics, the show touches on sexual orientation and race which is an extremely controversial topic to speak about in society specifically.
Directed by Gail Mancuso, she does an excellent job of bringing the family together after twenty years of not being in contact.
What I found nice is that Roseanne still uses Carsey Werner at the end of the show during the credits. Carsey Werner is a company founded by ex-ABC writers and producers Marcy Carsey and Tom Werner which was started in 1981. After only a couple of episodes, the show has been renewed for another season.
Things are looking good for members of the show as they hope to keep it going for another long while.
Roseanne airs on ABC on Tuesday nights at 8/7c which would be 6:00 p.m. El Paso time (Mountain time).
