EPCC to host McDonald's college fair at ASC

September 20, 2017

EPCC is hosting the 3rd annual McDonald’s College Fair on Sept.30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Administrative Services Center.

This community event is for high school students interested in exploring colleges and universities as stated by Executive Director of Outreach and Transition Services, Marisa Pierce.

This event is meant to “provide university and college representatives to programs of study.”

“Students and parents are invited to the event where they will have access to other institutions so they can meet and greet with them and get an idea of what is available out there,” Pierce said.

Some examples of regional universities and colleges invited to participate in last year’s McDonald’s College Fair include NMSU, Chamberlin College of Nursing, UTEP, University of Phoenix, Texas Tech University and Texas A&M.

In this year’s event, there will be “universities and colleges that we have invited to come and present and we will also have programs of study set up on the tables where you can go find out about cosmetology, criminal justice and sociology.”

Students can gain information on a variety of different programs and  possible certificate careers. The fair is organized into different areas of information.

While the fair inside the auditorium at the Administrative Services Center is taking place, there will also be “two English and Spanish sessions on two primary topics, one is going to be college and career readiness and another on financial aid.”

Per last year’s data, more than 300 students and parents attended the McDonald’s College Fair.

Gloria Tostado, from the McDonald’s marketing team, claims that the fairs have been very successful in the past stating that, “this year we are planning for 500 people.”

“My advice to the students who go would be to visit all of the tables and learn as much as you can.

I think that students limit their choices when they don’t know. Consider as many college options as you can and apply to more colleges,” Tostado said.

“We are very grateful for the work that EPCC has given us over the last two years in organizing this event and every year the event becomes more successful, so we can’t wait for this year’s event.”
