Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 takes what made the first movie a critical acclaimed Marvel film, and makes it funnier.
The main cast make a comeback in the second installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy was an origin story that introduced the characters The film overall, was very well received.
The second movie expands on each character’s little quirks with a whole lot more jokes than the first movie.
While not all jokes land and some of them feel a little too long, most of the movie is extremely funny and has less action than the first one.
But sometimes the film was predictable.
One of the key “plot points” of the movie or “twists” you could see coming since the movie started, and while it’s very predictable, director James Gunn found a way to make the reveal very sinister.
The underlying key plot on this movie is one of family, and this movie plays it like a soap opera full of sarcasm.
The two characters that steal the show for me are Yondu (the blue dude) and Rocket (the racoon.)
They have very funny, cool, and touching scenes together that gives them a very good character development, that aids in understanding this characters and the reason behind their actions much better.
One of the downsides of this film, and almost every Marvel film, is that every villain has a God complex and none of them have good character development.
They are one-time use villains.
Just as soon as they are introduced they are beat and because of that you don’t get invested in them, and don’t care about their actions or the reason behind them.
The highlights of the second film are an expansion of what made the first one a sneak attack from Marvel, the core characters, the CGI, the sound track, the 80s music, the new tiny and adorable Groot, and the very vibrant universe James Gunn created.
The pacing, plot and the amount of characters in the film makes it difficult to give each character meaningful scenes.
The second installment into the Guardians of the Galaxy world is not as good as the first one.
However, it is a must see film for any Marvel fan like myself and average moviegoers alike.
The film gets 4 out of 5 stars.
