Tepalca, a must for cool refreshments this spring

February 28, 2017

With this El Paso area winter being one of the warmest, one can only assume that the spring and summer months will also be unusually warm.

Tepalca restaurants are located at 6994 Doniphan Dr., 5198 Doniphan Dr. and 500 N Zaragoza Rd.

Lucky for us, Tepalca restaurants are here in town to provide with refreshing beverages, frozen treats, and savory food to hold us over through the longer solstice months.

Tepalca is a family and locally owned ice cream restaurant, and its first location sprung up in 2004 in Canutillo.

Since then, the restaurant, which was intentionally to be a snack and beverage cart/post, has now grown to have three locations around town another location is in the works.

The restaurant is a Michoacán style ice cream place with a variety of tasty delectables ready to savor the pallet.

At first you are welcomed by the aroma of freshly made waffle cone used to make bowls and cones for the ice cream.

A sweet additive of fresh fruits and food cooking add to that welcoming aroma.

Visually, you are captivated by original artwork reminiscent of the Michoacán style.

Airbrush portraits exploding with tropical colors depicting only the tastiest of treats surround the walls and counters.

The wall is covered in pineapples and Valentina hot sauce bottles.

Paletas come in flavors such as mango, mango with chile, pomegranate, strawberry and grape.

From hot dogs to flautas, shrimp cocktails and everything in between, Tepalca is definitely a must go to place to satisfy your hunger.

Tepalca is well known for the flauta plate among many menu items.

The flautas are deshebrada beef smothered in a Mexican style sour cream.

They are topped with fresh avocado, onions and tomato slices.

They are then rained on with fresh cheese, served with a side salad and limes.

These flautas are to die for.

Another menu item that exhilarates the senses are the tacos de alambre.

Sizzling steak strips seasoned with a fistful of melted cheese fusing the steak strips together in an amazing ballet of culinary perfection.

As for the sweets, Tepalca has several menu items that will satisfy that sweet incisor.

The aguas frescas exceed anyone’s expectations of sweet flavor.

With the classics flavors like cantaloupe lemonade and horchata, to new bold flavors like coco-nuez (coconut pecan) and frutas, such as apples, cherries and bananas.

Tepalca also has strawberries and cream, chocolate dipped bananas with peanuts, different types of ice cream flavors which they also dip in chocolate if you like served by the scoop or paletas ice cream pops.

With a great atmosphere, friendly staff, amazing food and delicious sweets and ice cream Tepalca receives a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars.
