"Chrysalis" journal of Spring 2017

November 8, 2016

EPCC would like to invite all students, faculty and staff to submit their works to their annual literary and art journal, “Chrysalis.”

"Chrysalis Literary and Arts Journal" accepts a wide range of works such as poetry, play writing, fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels and much more.

The next issue will be published in the Spring of 2017, and the deadline for submissions is Dec. 1.

"Chrysalis" can be a great way for students to express their thoughts and ideas and using creative alternatives.

Not only is it a way of expression, it is also a way of representing different approaches in literature.

Minerva Laveaga, Assistant Professor of English and the "Chrysalis" Faculty Advisor said, “The journal highlights the rich culture backgrounds of the El Paso area.”

Laveaga added that submissions from the community indicate that  people from the area have shown an interest in the publication. Interested writers can submit works in more than one category.

According to their website "Chrysalis" will accept submission from writers of all ages, and the community as well. Writers can submit up to two stories or novel excerpts, no more than 4,000 words each.

Writers can also submit up to two non-fiction submissions that are more than 4,000 words each as well.

Poets can submit up to five poems and all styles and themes are accepted. Playwrights can submit one to two scenes from their plays to be published.

Artists and photographers are asked to submit their work in 300 dpi JPEG format. Graphic art, paintings, photos of sculptures are also accepted.

Graphic novels should be no longer than 2-6 page layouts.

Submission from anonymous writers and artists are accepted, but will be asked to submit their contact information. You will be notified if your work was selected.

If students, faculty, staff and other community members are interested in publishing their work for the Spring 2017 "Chrysalis" issue they can email Laeaga at mlaveaga@epcc.edu.

Submissions can also be in English, Spanish, or both.
