Thanksgiving is right around the corner and for many families it may be too expensive to celebrate it this year.
According to the Statistic Brain Institute the total amount spent on Thanksgiving dinner food in the U.S. is $2,875,000,000 with the average household spending over $300 over the holiday weekend in 2015.
Sadly their are many Americans who have to make a choice between spending money on food or using it for other expenses such as bills or even medical expenses.
According to a report done in 2014 by the relief charity Feeding America, 69 percent of households that rely on food charities to survive have to choose between paying for utilities and paying for food.
With the advent of Thanksgiving comes the opportunity to help a family celebrate the holiday with a complete Thanksgiving dinner.
The EPCC Service Learning Program would like to invite you to help those in need and participate in their Thanksgiving Drive.
They will be accepting canned corn, canned green beans, canned or jarred gravy, canned cranberries or yams, canned biscuits, boxed mash potatoes, boxed dressing or stuffing, pumpkin pies, cookies of any kind, marshmallows, and whipped cream topping.
These items will be collected all the way until Nov. 18.
Frozen turkeys that weigh 12 to 15 pounds will also be accepted.
The turkeys can be dropped off on Nov. 21 and 22. Turkey dinners will be distributed on Nov. 22.
