(L-R) Actors Aubrey Plaza as Tatiana , Anna Kendrick as Alice, Adam Devine as Mike and Zac Efron as Dave.
Mike and Dave take the party to the next level.
Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave Stangle (Zac Efron) are two wild and crazy brothers who tend to get out of control at family gatherings.
When their sister Jeanie (Sugar Lyn Beard) tells her brothers about her wedding in Hawaii, the rest of the family insists that they both bring respectable dates.
After deciding to place an advertisement on Craigslist, the brothers find Tatiana (Aubrey Plaza) and Alice (Anna Kendrick), who seem like the nice respectable girls that they are looking for.
Once they arrive on the island, Mike and Dave realize that the girls are ready to party hard.
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is a fantastic comedy with great storytelling. The story isn’t very complex. Two bachelors need dates to their sister’s wedding, but the simple premise allows for a lot of characterization.
With the same writing team from Neighbors and Neighbors 2, it’s not surprising that there isn’t a love for making an all-around good movie.
One of the greatest elements of the writing is how well they use their actors to their advantage. Knowing that Dave is a better looking than Mike, a lot of jokes are used in a way to showcase this dynamic of ‘hot’ and ‘not’.
On the opposite end, we have Tatianna and Alice who are two ‘rude girls’. Alice constantly reminds herself of her failed wedding, and Tatianna is her best friend trying to keep her in good spirits by partying and drinking.
As the story goes along, we see how very similar these two sets of characters are.
While Alice and Tatianna are trying to hide themselves in order to look like ‘good girls’, little bits and pieces of their real life gets revealed, which shows the similarities between the drinking and the pursuing much more in life.
More of the comedy comes into play when Mike and Dave try to one up the girls but fail.
Some of the jokes may or not stick with younger viewers. One example I can give is a joke that references the singe Seal.
Even if the joke doesn’t land, the story still rolls along and doesn’t stop.
A lot of the plot is warm-hearted with a mix of over the top humor. If this movie sounds like your cup of tea, then I highly recommend it.
I give Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates 4 stars out of 5.
