My calling found in opportunity

June 14, 2016

My name is Ebonee Paige Norris and I am the new Editor of the Tejano Tribune.

When I accepted this position, I knew that it would be demanding. However, what I did not know was how much I would actually enjoy it.

Everyday I step into my office at El Paso Community College’s Valle Verde campus, I am excited to be there.

When I am at work, it does not feel like I am actually working. Even with the long hours that I frequently put in, I am excited to be there.

My staff are incredible to work with. They are helpful and dedicated.

The fact that I enjoy this opportunity so much is shocking

.
I had no clue what I wanted to do “when I grew up,” but I think that I’ve accidentally stumbled into a position I would like to be for the rest of my life.

I am in a position fitting to my personality. I like to see over things and ensure that they are done correctly.

As the editor, it is my responsibility to ensure that my staff writers are given news worthy stories.

After my staff writers complete their interviews, I edit their articles for repeat and insignificant material, which is gotten rid of.

Not only has this opportunity been a wonderful experience, but it has opened my mind to other possibilities.

I find myself envisioning owning a business one day.

Maybe even starting my own newspaper.

When I have those thoughts, I think about all the instructors that have been in my path.

I think about the ways in which their expertise might help me accomplish any new dreams.

With that being said, I am very satisfied where I am at in life right now.

I am happy to have found my calling.

Maybe.
