The S-STEM program may be right for you.
Come and join the S-STEM program, the scholarship is for students who are superior in science, technology, engineering and math (excluding health sciences & architecture).
This scholarship helps students pay for their tuition costs.
Helps students worry less and focus on their classes, rather than on their financial issues and provides guidance for students.
While in this program you build team character and prepares you for career (STEM) fields in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
This program is a one year program, but anyone can reapply at the end of the year.
This program helps students stay on track to achieve their educational goals.
To be eligible students must be attending at least 12 credit hours per semester at El Paso Community College
Students must be eligible to receive financial aid to qualify for this award (FAFSA must be completed prior to applying for this scholarship)
A minimum of 3.20 grade point average is required for students to receive the S-STEM award.
The deadline to apply for this scholarship is November 15th for Spring, Students are required to submit a 600 word essay along with their application.
In order for students to be considered, they are required to submit two letters of recommendation from teachers who have previously instructed them.
If you complete all of the above you can be awarded up to $8,400 per year in four incremental payments.
Not only are you rewarded financially and get more learning experience you are committed to being involved with other students in the program.
Students are to meet up with fellow students in the program every Friday for at least two hours.
Service hours are required to also help sharpen your math skills by tutoring students attending developmental courses.
Students must complete a minimum amount of 19 hours in order to receive recognition for the scholarship and to be considered for the additional semesters.
Another benefit to this program is that you are required to attend trips out of town to participate in projects.
An important part of the S-STEM Scholarship are the semester long projects.
Recipients are teamed up with experts in the field to perform experiments, conduct studies, or crunch “big data.”
