If mobsters and murder is your thing, then the Warner Bros. film Black Mass is one to see.
The film is based on the alliance between the FBI and Irish-American mobster James “Whitey” Bulger, played by Johnny Depp.

Johnny Depp plays James "Whitey" Bulger in Black Mass, which was the number two film in the weekend box offices.
Taking place in 1975, Bulger, the leader of Winter Hill Gang, controls most of the crime in South Boston.
Though it doesn’t cover much of the war that was going on at the time between the Angiulo Brothers, who were tied to the mafia, and the Winter Hill Gang, it does a fine job of addressing the issues with the FBI’s inability to stop Bulger from becoming the renowned crime kingpin that he is known as today.
Black Mass brought in a weekend gross income of $22 million, landing in second place on the weekend box office. Black Mass is no disappointment.
Depp’s portrayal of Bulger was a success, not only due to his ability of bringing any character to life on the screen but also because of the amazing job done by the make-up artists.
The actor is almost unrecognizable in his prosthetic make-over; the most obvious being his residing hairline, bright blue eyes and freckled, wrinkled skin. His frightful appearance causes a fear in the viewers that takes the film to the necessary level of a crime-based storyline.
Overall, Black Mass, though not suitable for children, is a definite no-brainer for a mature audience. Make sure to stock up on popcorn and soda because you won’t want to leave your seat.
I give it a 4 out of 5.
