The EPCC men and women Cross Country teams opened their season last weekend at the Lori Fitzgerald Classic.

Cross counry girls run with much endurance in order to finish off the race strong as supporters stand by, watching and encouraging them along the way.
The meet, which took place at the Chamizal memorial national park, saw the men’s finish in 3rd our of three teams, and the women finished 4 out of 14.
It was an early-season opportunity for the Tejanos and Tejanas to test themselves against Division-1 schools like UTEP and NMSU.
Leading the way for the mens team was Eli Kosgei, who finished 7th with a time of 20:23.5.
Finishing 13 and 14 respectively were Daniel Gonzalez and Elias Villegas-Ponce with times of 21:45.5 and 21:52.9. ; Juan Vasques finished 21st with a time of 22:24.0; John Sandoval finished 24th with a time of 22:43.2 and Diego Diaz finished 28th with a time of 23:53.7.
On the women’s side, Kayla Pallares had a strong showing by finishing 4th with a time of 17:45.6
Kelli Kirkpatrick was next for the Tejanas, finishing 15th with a time of 19:38.8. Mercy Rotich finished 17th with a time of 19:59.8. The only other EPCC female who finished in the top 20 was Elida Pargas
(20th place) with a time of 20:21.5
UTEP won both events and the women’s team titled at the event.
Next up for the EPCC Cross Country team is the Kachina Classic at NMSU Sept. 19.
