Students trying to keep up their workout routine at the EPCC Valle Verde campus are fortunate to have the ability to reach the goals they seek thanks to a free gymnasium and weight room.
Though not currently in the traditional school term, EPCC students still have access to the campus recreation center.

EPCC students can take advantage of the recreation center at the Valle Verde campus during the summer. A weight room, gymnasium and other activites are open to all students.
“In the summer we have open recreational hours,”Adrian Lopez, EPCC gym desk clerk said. “We help those who may have any questions on the equipment and how use it.”
While other gyms around El Paso will claim a judgment free zone and no meat heads, at the gymnasium facility at Valle Verde, Intramural Activities Manager Louis Hernandez said he stands firm in his place trying to make the environment as friendly as possible, with a zero tolerance to any kind of intimidation tactics.
“No one is made fun of here, our games are friendly,” he said. “I have instilled in my staff not to let students take advantage of other students.”
Hernandez encourages students and people of the community to come out and join the fun physical activities he and his staff have panned for the upcoming fall semester.
A few competitions and events already scheduled include: co-ed soccer, a freedom walk at all campuses, fitness competition, “pop shot” basketball and a free throw competition.
Not every activity promoted in the past has been a success, but Hernandez said with some trial and error and a little research, he is always trying to figure out what other junctures to set up for participants.
Students can find the gym next to the 'A' building on campus.
“We are an outlet for the students to come out here and relax, get in shape, have fun and make new friends,” Hernandez said. “Nobody walks out of here feeling discouraged.”
