As part of an effort to help offset the cost of school supplies, students, faculty and staff can participate in the partnered EPCC Campus Life and Student Leadership ‘Christmas in July.”
Now until July 24, the annual ‘Christmas in July’ drive for school supplies will be accepting donations. Ramona Elementary School, located near the Valle Verde campus, will be this year’s recipient.
More than 40 items are listed for the drive including rulers, lunchboxes, backpacks, boxes of tissue and baby wipes.
“We have drop boxes conveniently located in every Campus Life office at each of our five campuses,”

Sandra Ramirez-Lemus, student leadership administration office assistant, said. “They can walk into any office during normal business hours, drop off their items and they’ll be glad that they did.”
With levels ranging from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade, Ramona elementary is listed as a low income institution for learning, which qualifies for assistance.
“The previous year, we were able to help approximately 100 students with their supplies,” Yvonne Espinoza, EPCC Mission del Paso Campus Life representative, said.
“We are so used to giving in the months of November and December, that any other time of the year we forget that we still have those that are in need.”
A mother of three, Campus Life Assistant Veronica Valverde said school supplies are not always easily accessible.
“Living in the community that we live in, where families are low income and multiple children, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for them to buy all their needed school supplies,” she said. “Supporting ‘Christmas in July’ will definitely have a positive impact for any family struggling financially.”
