For my first exposure to a country style restaurant, the Tumbleweed Saloon was a pleasant surprise.

Located on 1610 Sioux Dr. behind the Dick Poe Dealership, it encompasses the meaning of a hidden gem.

The first thing anyone entering the restaurant notices is the spacious dance floor with an accompanying stage for live music performances on Friday nights.

The back of the restaurant is a covered area for smokers to enjoy themselves while staying warm and, for special occasions, there is a reserved area for bigger parties by the front entrance.

The Western atmosphere is made up with cowboy boots hanging from the ceiling, wooden barrels cut in half on the walls, bullhorns, and more.

Flat-screen TVs are located around the restaurant, so you always have a good view of any big game.

The bar has a nice variety of liquor choices and beer that is brought to you at ice-cold temperatures for a cool refreshment.

The menu is quite simple and short, but I thought of it as quality over quantity.

Steak, wings, nachos, spicy chicken tenders and chicken and waffles were all front-runners in a difficult selection process, but ultimately, The Mac Daddy won my appetite.

The delicious and filling pulled-pork,mac-and-cheese sandwich with french fries, sliced pickles and jalapenos had me marvel at what my taste buds were about to enjoy.

What put the icing on the sandwich was its reasonable price, along with anything on the menu, that had mercy on my college student-size wallet.

In addition to that, everyday drink specials run from noon to 7 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays it’s three dollar “you call it.”

Although most of my experience was great, there were some off-putting aspects too.

With great food comes great customer service responsibilities, which I didn’t experience fully.

Going on a weekend, I was expecting the place to be packed, but half of the tables were empty.

I didn’t complain after seeing those empty tables though, because I expected fast service.

Unfortunately, it took more time than expected for our food to arrive.

One friend and I waited for more than 20 minutes for what I would consider to be a simple order,

and my other friend waited even longer for his order.

Our waiter was extremely friendly, but at times seemed to have forgotten about us.

With that being said, it still wasn’t enough to keep me or my friend from having a pleasant meal and enjoying the afternoon in a great atmosphere.

I would definitely look forward to gathering my friends or family and heading back to the Tumbleweed Saloon for its tasteful and Western-style comfort food and friendly atmosphere.
