Last December, the Student Services Center offices at the El Paso Community College Valle
Verde campus closed down for remodeling.
The Student Services Center departments, including the counselor’s offices, job placement,
Career Services, faculty offices and Recruitment have all been moved into temporary portable buildings for the remainder of the spring semester.

“The departments in the building are going to be different than before, and the offices here in the portables are all going back [to the building].
The new departments that are being added are still up in the air.”
The Student Services Center’s temporary portables are located in Parking lot H, right in front of the VV campus YMCA Day Care center.
The buildings include: portable A, which are the offices of Job Placement, Career Services,
Recruitment and some faculty offices; portable B, where students in need of counselor
assistance are to wait before seeing a counselor, and portable C, where the counselors’
offices are held.
The last portable in the parking lot contains restrooms for staff and students.
“Being in the portables is not so bad,” said Velasquez.
“It mimics the area we were in, all the facilities do have offices for students to come and see us.”
The remodeling work is expected to be completed by the end of June.
The Student Services Center are scheduled to reopen sometime this summer
or before the fall semester begins.
The reconstruction of the center is being done by AO General Contractors, who will
remodel the four restrooms on the east side of the building and the smaller restrooms on the
second floor of the south side of the center.
“I believe they had their reasons for remodeling,” said EPCC student Alfredo Luna.
“The building’s not as big as it should be.
I think it will be a good thing for the campus in the long run."
"To me, it’s okay having it this way.
It’s better than having nothing at all or having to go to another EPCC campus.”
