Construction at campus entrance at Taxaco/Hunter is complete.
Due to the number of automobile accidents that have occurred at the Hunter Dr.
and Taxco Dr. entrance at the El Paso Community College Valle Verde campus, EPCC and Moreno Cardenas Inc. created a plan that would hopefully make traffic flow better.
“We hired a consultant (Moreno Cadenas Inc.) to review the area there,” said Richard Lobato, director of the Physical Plant at EPCC.
“The recommendation was made to make a left turn and one turn going right, which would even out traffic flow and make a more beneficial situation.”
The original entrance only had two lanes.
The lane going into the college only turned right, which made it dangerous to turn left.
With the new lane added, drivers will be able to choose to either go left or right.
As well as a new lane, the design added new sidewalks to both sides of the entrance
as well as new stop signs.
“It’s going to improve traffic flow in the area and get rid of a lot of confusion the prior design was causing,” said Lobato.
“The new design is not only meant to help traffic flow better, but to also minimize accidents.
It is also supposed to make it safer for students who walk to and from campus using
the Hunter-Taxco entrance.”
