Coming from a rough placing in the NJCAA Championship, the Tejanos redeemed themselves by the second place NJCAA Half-Marathon National Championship with 24 points in Topeka, Kan. with 24 points.
“They brought home a trophy and each one got medals,” said coach Felix Hinojosa.
“It’s always good to finish in a podium spot.”
South Plains scored 16 points, making them earn the first place and Allen County Community College finished third with 25.
EPCC runner George Yator got third place overall with a time of 1:09:11. Ricardo De Santiago finished 10th with 1:13:11.

David Colmenero finished in 11th place with a time of 11:13:17.
The half-marathon race was 13.1 miles long.
Hinojosa said that it was a great day for a run.
“It was really good weather for Kansas, 47 degrees, and they ran around a lake,” he said.
“They ran in fog. There were parts on the course that were covered in fog.”
Three of the men’s country team are graduating with scholarship offers.
George Yator received a scholarship from UTEP, and David Colmenero and Ricardo de Santiago received full scholarships from New Mexico State University.
Hinojosa already recruited athletes for next season and is looking forward to another amazing season.
