The El Paso Community College music department is kicking off the holiday season on Dec. 4 and 5 with its annual Fall Music Showcase at the EPCC Transmountain campus theater.

Showtime for both days is 7:30 p.m. with a cost of $3 for admission.

Tickets are available at the door, and unlike previous years, there will be no presale.

The showcase is divided into a two-day event in order to accommodate all of its performers.

The Dec. 4 show will include performances from the EPCC Guitar Ensemble and the EPCC Jazz Combos. On Dec. 5, EPCC’s chorus, band and orchestra will perform along with Mariachi Real de El Paso.

Ruben Gutierrez, who has been in charge of the Fall Music Showcase since 2010, said the event is a tradition that has been going on since the EPCC Valle Verde campus opened its doors 37 years ago.

Gutierrez is an assistant professor of music at EPCC.

“Each year we grow,” Gutierrez said, “Our students get better.

I’m very excited about the growth in our programs and ensembles.”

Gutierrez said he will be accompanying some of the jazz singers on the piano in the first show and compositions and arrangements by Armin Harrison, director of the guitar ensemble, will also be showcased.

He also said the second show will include two more faculty members, jazz pianist Fernando Lechuga and Raul Castañeda, who will be accompanying the band and orchestra students with his violin.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the EPCC music program students and faculty.
