Opposing same-sex marriage is idiotic

A Different Perspective

Jesús A. Rodríguez

As a member of the 21st century, the idea that same-sex marriage is still seen as unnatural or horrible is just unbelievably ridiculous to me.

Can’t we live in a time where common sense is actually common among us?

Let’s put it this way: How does same-sex marriage affect you in a bad way? If you answered the question directly, you’re an idiot.

How about we put it the other way around?

How does the restriction of same-sex marriage affect you in a bad way?

Let me answer: You’re allowing the government to control your behavior and that my friends, is totalitarianism (A concept in which the government holds total authority over the society and seeks to control all aspects of public and private life wherever possible).

In other words, wanting to prohibit same-sex marriage is demanding less freedom.

But what can I do if you believe in a religion where a god sees same-sex couples being in love as an abomination?

I can’t do much.

You can voice your opinion, yes, but don’t let those beliefs affect the lives of others.

The sad thing is that the beliefs of others are affecting other people’s lives.

How?

Well, the main reason why same-sex marriage is illegal in many places around the world is because a religion sees it as unnatural.

Some say people shouldn’t have their tax money spent to support something they believe is wrong, but assuming that everything you disagree with should be prohibited is also assuming that it can apply to you.

Now, others debate that if same-sex couples are allowed to marry, soon we’ll see people marrying animals, objects, trees, etc. I don’t see the logic in that.

Think about it; think about the past; when women and blacks were allowed to take part in election processes for the first time, we didn’t see dogs in line to vote the next day.

It’s incredible that some people feel uncomfortable around these couples.

They don’t have bad intentions; they’re in love and want to share a life together.

What’s so terrible about that?

People shouldn’t be criminalized for following their feelings.

What it's going to happen that is so bad if same-sex couples are allowed to marry?

Others find horrible to think that children will see same-sex couples and will replicate their behavior.

Leave these people alone! Why is it so scary?

It’s not bad or good to be gay, lesbian or bisexual, but could be awesome to be whatever you want without anyone telling you if it’s bad or wrong.
