Got extra clothes? EPCC College for Christ club, along with over a 100 churches around the city, are collecting clothing donations in all campuses to help out El Paso families in need at the ShareFest.
Used and new clothes are accepted from anyone and can be dropped off at all EPCC libraries and at the Student Leadership Office C107 at the Valle Verde campus.
Donations will be accepted until Oct. 21.
“There’s a lot of people that are in need and so many of us have so much,” said Becky Perales, faculty adviser for College for Christ and Rio Grande librarian at EPCC.
“Everyone has something in their closet that they can donate.”
El Paso families will be given the free items at the ShareFest on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon at the El Paso County Coliseum Pavilion located at 4100 East Paisano.
“The families that we would be helping are families that don’t have the opportunity to have the luxuries that we have,” said Mildred Altamira, College for Christ president.
“By giving them clothes I guess it helps them feel hope.”
The ShareFest is held annually and this will be its 24th edition.
Perales said that this is the first time that College for Christ supports the cause of the ShareFest and that club members will be helping out to organize and then distribute the donations to everyone that goes.
“I heard about it through an association that I am part of, the El Paso Baptist Association, and they announced it at one of our meetings and I brought it up to the club and they voted to participate,” Perales said.
“They wanted to help with the collection and the volunteering to provide some service to the community, a service project for the club.”
