During the Arch Talks, local and national architects give a lecture about their experience in the field.
The second architecture lecture, Arch Talks, will take place on the evening of Oct. 17 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the EPCC Administrative Service Center (ASC) building A auditorium.
Each semester, since Spring 2010, the architecture department hosts Arch Talks, where local and national architects come and give lectures about architecture.
The event free and open to the public.
The talks are organized by Emmanuel Ricardo Moreno, associate professor of architecture at EPCC.
“We have a variety of people show because it is a basic interest,” Moreno said.
The speaker for this coming lecture is local architect Carlos Lievanos, LiveArch firm principal.
Some of his firm works in El Paso are The Mix at Union Plaza, Iceit Yogurt & Sweets and Dr. Sue Shook Elementary School.
“Everywhere we walk there is some architecture, whether is ugly or very pretty, and a lot of architecture is happening across our city right now, especially downtown with all the buildings being torn down and people protesting and then new buildings coming up,” Moreno said.
Moreno said that for the final talk students will work hard to organize fund raisers to bring an architect from out of town, also with funds donated by Student Government Association (SGA).
Lievanos has a bachelor’s of architecture from Texas Tech University and was in an international exchange program where he attended Valencia Polytechnic University in Spain.
After the talks there will be a question and answer forum with the architect.
