The EPCC men’s cross country team finished second in the Kachina & Lori Fitzgerald Cross Country Meet at NMSU last weekend.
Leading the pack for the Tejanos was George Yator, who finished his race with a time of 15:35.
Following Yator for EPCC was Gerardo Escapita (16:20), David Colmenero (16:24), Eli Kosgei (16:27), Ricardo De Santiago (16:36), Daniel Gonzalez (16:42), Marco Perez (17:01), Aaron Daly (17:17), Diego Diaz (18:01) and Manuel Ortiz (18:27).
“The weather was nice and cool, not windy and it was a very nice morning,” said Escapita. “The race was full of hills, of course, with really long grass that can slow you down.”
In his first year running for EPCC, Escapita has already marked his fastest 5k (3.2 miles) time.
“It is my fastest time this season.
I want to get as close as I can to 15 minutes,” Escapita explained.
“I was shocked because in my last race I placed seventh,” said Escapita.
The men’s cross country team strives to be a close knit unit.
“We treat each other like brothers,” said Escapita.
The EPCC Tejanos will travel to Stillwater, OK. on Sept. 27 to compete in Oklahoma State’s Cowboy Jamboree cross country meet.
