Valdespino named interim dean of Communication and Performing Arts
While we go through the recruitment process and contingent upon board approval, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Arturo Valdespino, who has agreed to step away from his teaching role and serve in an administrative role as Interim Dean of the Communication and Performing Arts Division at the Valle Verde Campus effective Monday, January 24, 2022.
Professor Valdespino has been teaching for 21 years and with EPCC since 2012, when he started as adjunct faculty. He currently serves as Assistant Professor in the English Discipline.
Mr. Valdespino brings a variety of experience to the Interim Dean position, having served in different roles at EPCC. From 2018 through 2020, he served as Assistant to the Dean of Communication and Performing Arts under Dean Primozich.
He has been actively involved at the institution by participating in four Standing Committees, including Dual Credit Committee Chair, Distance Learning Committee Chair, QEP Committee Chair, and English SLO Committee Co-Chair. He has also served on several task forces, including English Online/ Dual Credit as Coordinator and Chair of the Committee, Jazz Night Black History Committee Chair, Workforce Procedure Group, Evaluation Committee, 4DX, and the Online Taskforce.
He also finds time to volunteer and served as a mentor for the EPCC Puente Project and Clint ISD Access to College Project. In addition to his professional attributes, Mr. Valdespino received the 2020 EPCC Nova Award from his Division and was recognized as Most Outstanding Graduate (English Department) from UTEP.
Mr. Valdespino holds a Master's and Bachelor of Arts in English and American Literature from UTEP. Mr. Valdespino's passion for teaching is evident and has positively impacted our students.
